Ten years after its launch by Fost Plus and Bebat, the Recycle! app has passed the one million active users mark. The app was launched in 2014 to help consumers sort better. In addition to the collection calendar and information about collection points for glass and batteries, in future the Recycle! app will also provide customised sorting advice.
The Recycle! app has about 30,000 new users per month, and is the third most downloaded free app in Belgium in 2023, after DeepL translate and Google Translate. Given that Belgium has just over five million households, we can therefore say that one in five households uses the Recycle! app!
At present, the app has three key features:
- A collection calendar, with the option to set notifications when a particular rubbish bin or bag can be put out.
- The location of collection points such as recycling parcs, bottle banks and battery collection points.
- General sorting advice.
Over the next few months, Fost Plus and Bebat will upgrade the app with customised sorting advice. By analogy with the sorting website www.bettersorting.be, a search bar will be added.
For Fost Plus and Bebat, the Recycle! app is an important digital tool for supporting consumers in their efforts for a better, cleaner world through waste management.
