MatchMaker: ‘dating tool’ for partners in reuse and prevention

The Reduce & Re-Use MatchMaker is a new platform that helps organisations find partners for packaging reuse and prevention. The tool is designed to bring partners together in the ecosystem in order to speed up the transition to more reuse and less packaging – especially single-use packaging.

The share of packaging waste in Europe is supposed to decrease by 15% per person by 2040 (source: Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation). Projects related to reusable packaging and the necessary logistical framework are in full development, as are new technologies such as smart return machines and refill systems. It’s a trend that we’ve been seeing for several years, and it’s set to gain even more momentum. At present, many of these initiatives are still small-scale and local in character. To get the whole population on board, they must be scaled up and the needs of the different partners must be aligned. This is the role that Fost Plus has defined for itself in its sustainable packaging roadmap. The Reduce and Re-Use MatchMaker is the first concrete project in this context.

For many organisations, it is a challenge to find out which prevention and reuse services are already available on the market. This is how the idea of the MatchMaker emerged. We show what services and providers already exist, accelerating the development and diffusion of new systems, business models and technologies.

Fost Plus believes that cooperation is the key to an effective and efficient circular economy that minimises the impact of packaging on the environment. By registering, service providers can make contact with suitable partners with complementary needs and capabilities. The aim is to use knowledge-sharing to accelerate innovation.
