On January 1, 2023, Fost Plus announced a new sorting and recycling solution for coffee and beverage capsules, via the blue PMD bag. The aim was to make sorting easier for consumers, who already use the blue PMD bag every day for their packaging waste. A year after the introduction, almost 4 out of 10 sold coffee capsules are collected. Research showed that the sorting message was clear to 80% of Belgians, although not everyone applies it correctly.
For Fost Plus, it is an important step forward in realizing their ambition: enabling sustainable resource and material management. It is the first time that non-packaging may also be sorted with the PMD. The decision was made with citizen comfort at heart and is the result of intense collaboration with Nespresso, Nestlé, JDE Peet's, Delhaize and partners in the sorting and recycling chain.
